No drug testing for schools?

I decided to try school nurse substituting again. I did it for one school year for a very small rural school district. The nurse was stationed right there in a very small attendance office, and it was too claustrophobic, especially considering the attendance gal was a passive aggressive with RBF.

I got hired by two different school districts this year. I've mostly worked at one of them, I really love their set up and the culture at the school. I have superb communication with the nurse who runs the program. I'm optimistic that this will be a good semi retirement job for me. The other school also has a very nice setup.

One thing I found rather amazing is that none of these three school districts dis any type of pre-employment drug screening. What is your experience with this? I was surprised.

I have worked for several districts and never had drug testing done, just a CORI check (which is what my state does).

Yeah, I think our contract says the district has a right to drug test you if there is a concern, but it is not a routine procedure on hire. We do have to keep our CORI up to date (every 3 years) and everyone (including subs) are fingerprinted and go through an additional layer background check, though.
