No bandaids

Has anyone else implemented the no adhesives rule in the NICU. The nurses are having a hard time adjusting to not using band aids. They currently are using gauze tied around the foot to stop bleeding but the infant kicks it off and bleeds on the beds. Any suggestions?

Coban can definitely be wrapped too tight. Potential is increased if the baby is edematous. Just need to be careful. No wrapping and running!

Yeah, I wouldn't mind them if I knew every nurse and the other disciplines would be cognizant of the risk of too-tight wrapping. But we all know not everyone will be.

We use the little spot bandaids instead of the big ones, on the bigger kids, little kids get their foot wrapped in a cotton ball with paper tape over it, the tape doesn't really touch the skin at all.

We try to use the bandage that sticks to itself - I'm having a tired moment here and can't think of it's name. Sometimes there is no other alternative though.
