NMC CBT test

Hi All,

I am an Aussie nurse who is trying to go through fulfilling requirements for registration in the UK. I am due to sit my CBT (test of competence for adult nursing) on the 13th July and am concerned that I have not allowed myself enough time to study. Can someone advise if it is enough to read the NMC Domains (which I presume are the 'blueprints') or will I need to do further readings with all the links that are provided at the back of each domain? It seems an awful lot to study in a short amount of time. Isn't the test more common sense than anything? Some advise would be appreciated!

I just did mine last month. The domains are important. Especially the ones with an "E" beside them in the next column over, the critical questions come from them. Besides that, brushing up on medication calculations, like drip rates, etc.., there is a domain that lists what you need to look over for that. As long as you are up to date with your medical/surgical knowledge you should be ok. Make sure you know the code too. You also have access to a few practice exams with Pearson Vue, I found them helpful. Only 5 questions, but it gives you an example of the test format.

And don't bother buying any exams from NMCprep.com. Their content is US based and isn't a true example of the actual CBT.

I hope that helps!

Hi Seddie 151,

I prepared for my CBT in a total of close to or even less than 2weeks (full time self review - no work), so that's enough time you have there. I read the domains, the Code, Adult nsg specific competencies, around 80% of the Royal Marsden book and took into heart the end of chapter questions as I found those quizes extremely helpful as there a number of questions from there that appeared in the actual test.

Hey, I'm Aussie too. Try not to stress too much. The questions are all about basic safety, as you said: common sense.

If you go to my profile and click on the link to see all my posts, I made a post a few months ago about what was in it. Feel free to msg me as well! When do you wanna go over?

Hello there,

I did my CBT test on Tuesday Feb 27th and pass it.

This is how I study.

I bought a package of 10 set each set has 100 multiple choice questions from cbtpreps.com it is US site

I bought a package of about 300 multiple choice questions from BMJ on examination, part1 practice test I found this one very helpful it is 20 pound well worth it. It is UK site

NMC codes, Medicine management, and all the article in their website.

All the calculation formulas there is no calculator allowed.

Oh and 110 multi choice questions at: http//:Dougherty: The Royal Marsden Manual of Clinical Nursing Procedures Student Edition 9e.

U don't need to buy preps questions it is US base but it is still helpful.

I study in 2weeks no work

It is not very difficult make sure u review the the articles

Good luck
