NMC CBT prep, some advice please.

Published

Hi everyone!

I just joined the site hoping I could get advice from all of you who are yearning to work in the UK.

I am currently in Kuwait. As soon as I passed my IELTS UKVI on June 18, 2016, i applied thru workabroad.com for employment to UK. Luckily loads of agencies responded but Omanfil was the fastest to accommodate me. They arranged Skype interview with KCH and fortunately nailed it. I got my offer letter and now I am due to take my CBT on September 8 2016. Anyone here can advice what to revise? How long will it take to be deployed to the UK after CBT? Coz i dont wanna resign from my job now thinkin it might take 6 mos or more to process all the documentations for visa and all... I'm a bread winner and I can't afford to be stucked for a long time.

Hoping to hear from you guys...

Hi angel.

Dont worry you can pass it. My friend failed once but she booked it again after a month and made it. Sorry for the delays, pls check your email. God bless.

Hi nurse rossi, if I may ask are you already in the UK? :) Thank you.

Nope. I am still in Kuwait. Waiting for my DL, and I am like 25 days on queue. For some reason, it is a bit slow here in Kuwait to retrieve RN related documents; hence, my delays. Good thing, am over it. Have you received my email?

Confused over there. Lol, i was addressing to angela about the email x

Hi nurse rossi, congratulations on your job! May I ask if you are required to be from the Philippines to use the workabroad site? I am already in London (and not from the Philippines) but would like to have an interview with KCH and hopefully have an agency help pay my NMC fees. Thank you :)

You can use the site even if your outside the phils. Apply to omanfil and they will arrange skype interview with KCH. But they will not pay for the OSCE. Some agencies/ NHS trust will shoulder everything for you.

Thank you Nurse Rossi! I will investigate omanfil. Do you have any idea of hospitals or trusts that will pay the NMC fees? I am working as an HCA now and the fees are almost equal to one month's salary for me! Thank you again!

Hi, does anyone know if you retake the same test if you fail the first attempt? Or will you re-sit a completely different test? I am quite nervous about failing my first go.

Hello cactus2016. I failed my first go on the CBT. I took it March 14. How was your test?

Hi Yanzkie, thanks for your reply. I didn't take it yet but will have my first attempt next month. Have you re-taken the exam yet? If so, did you find that the first attempt gave you more information on how to prepare for the second attempt? Any other tips or insights?

I am a US RN, NP, and CNM. It has been many years since I have done a lot of the med-surg/bedside nursing in the Royal Marsden, so I am struggling with the Royal Marsden right now!

Honestly, I would suggest that you read the NMC Blueprint, The Code, Standards for Medicine Management, Duty of Candour, and all the useful PDFs and links on the NMC website that you can read. The Royal Marsden is good resource material but dont dwell too much on the procedures. I read that book too by the way. The essential questions are usually about UK Nursing, that means, policies and standards. Good luck on your test! :)

Thanks! I have been going through those as well...just hard (for me, at least!) to filter the many links and figure out what to focus on. There seems to be a range of really broad "treat patients with dignity" stuff and then very specific procedures (UK society for gastroenterologists guidelines for insertion of NG tubes)...it almost makes me want to just take the test and see how it goes to get a better idea for the questions and the test, but I imagine I would end up just failing that way.

Did you re-take your test yet? What sort of nursing are you doing now? I take it from your credentials that you are in the US. I am trying to get more US nurses in touch as our process is different than a lot of the nurses going through agencies...please let me know if you'd like to chat more by email.
