NJCU ABSN 2020

Published

Hi everyone - I am considering applying for the Jersey City NJCU ABSN program starting in 2020. Has anyone submitted their application?

I am studying for the HESI exam, wish I would’ve started studying earlier. Looking to schedule it for the 10th. Anyone have any tips on this test? Is it all multiple choice? I am finishing up my last prerequisites at the same time too. Was going to also apply to Rutgers, but couldn’t find anywhere online where I could take Organic biochemistry. Good luck everyone!

I found it similar to the practice tests in the recommended study guide.

Thank you. I worked through that one and have it tomorrow. How long did it take to get your results?

The results come up immediately after each section and then there's a cumulative score at the end which again includes the breakdown of each section

Just finished the HESI. so glad it’s done. Going to write my admissions essay and submit this week!

How was it? I’m so nervous about it... wake up and start studying right away lol

@Chelly2628 I'm so relieved! I got 91.67%. It's a huge gift that we don't have to test on chem or physics. I thought the Bio and AP were the toughest sections because there is only 30 questions... if you miss 3, you're down to a 90% for that section. I used the book by Elsevier and felt like it prepared me very well. I had also taken the TEAS, so I was studying for that test as well. If you work your way through that study book, you'll be more than fine!

Hello everyone! So happy I found this thread even though there are not many people on it. I have applied to the Wall Campus.

I was wondering if any of you knew when we would hear of a decision since the application was due today.

Is it safe to assume early to mid-April?

Any thoughts? I am literally so nervous and cannot wait to get a response.

@otgd8 hi!! Best of luck to you! I can’t wait to press submit on my JC campus application. From old threads, it seems like April is when the older cohorts heard. Did you apply anywhere else?

I wish you luck also. So, I did not apply anywhere else! It's bad but we'll see how it turns out. My backup plan is just applying to RU next year. But I did my undergrad there so I was trying to avoid it. I really was trying to avoid taking Gen Chem II because they require it for their program and gen chem for some reason just doesn't stick for me.

I am assuming you applied to more than one school though since that's what most people do. Which schools did you apply to?

April seems SO far away right now!

Good luck!! It’s not necessarily bad if it’s what you want. I hope you get good news sooner than April. It’s torture lol What did you do your undergrad in??

I applied to RU. but I’m 99.5% sure I won’t get in based on the chemistry requirement. I took chemistry of life, it covers inorganic organic and biochem. It matches the NB course descriptions for the prerequisites but I’m fairly sure they won’t take it. I also am applying to saint peters in JC that has a Fairly new ABSN program. They didn’t require chem, but do require the teas which I found annoyingly more challenging than the HESI.

I think wall finds out first, so I hope you don’t wait til April.

Yea. I really want to go to the Wall NJCU campus. It's a small program so I feel like I will learn better. RU has a way larger program and I know how RU works already. They are very bureaucratic and make everything extra difficult lol. I really do hope that NJCU responds sooner than April. I feel like mid-March would be more acceptable. But we'll see. Most of the other threads were talking about a response in April for the JC campus it looked like. But if they get a lot of applications then I am sure they will delay getting back to us for both campuses.

Also, yea RU accepts the Chem of Life with a lab in lieu of gen chem or biochem. They also accept a C for all the prereqs (https://nursing.rutgers.edu/wp-content/uploads/2019/06/Sample-Prereq-Course-Descriptions.pdf).

Why wouldn't you get in?

I double-majored at RU - in Public Health and Women's and Gender studies. I was like I might as well enjoy the classes I take in college so I took it easy and majored in those subjects. What about you?

How was the TEAS more challenging than the HESI? What topics were you required to take and did they allow a calculator on the math section?
