NJ DUI

Published

I am currently facing a DUI in the state of NJ and I am practicing as a registered Nurse. Does anyone have any experience with this matter and the BON or the RAMPS program? Do I need to self report? Am I facing time off of work? I really can't afford to be out of work for any amount of time.

This is my first type of discipline action in my professional or public life and any help would be appreciated. Thank you in advance.

what happened?

Hello I am a student applying for RN licensure with a 1st offense dui in NJ that is 4 years old. There was confusion in regards to whether it is reported or not because it is not a criminal offense in NJ. I spoke with the criminal history review unit today at the division of consumer affairs and was told that a dui is not a crime so it will not generate a criminal record and they do not share dui records with the board of nursing. Hopefully this helps.

All of these programs are different. I dont have any restrictions besides having to take vivitrol (a Monthly IM medication like naltrexone) and of course random testing and meetings. I work nights and can pass narcotics and everything and narcotics was my issue. Find a lawyer dealing with nurses and the board right away for proper advise. I hear Texas and California and I think Florida are the strictest so hopefully NJ will give you a break. Find out what to do before the board finds out about the DUI first. Often, self reporting first is the way to go.
