NICU Residency job status “closed”

A few weeks ago I applied for a NICU residency. I also applied for a few other jobs in the OB department. The job status on a couple of those applications have changed to “filled”. So obviously someone has been hired. One of them still says “considering” and that job is still posted on their careers section. However my application status of the NICU residency job now says “closed” and is no longer posted on their website for anyone to apply for. I am wondering if I could still possibly be one they are considering?

For any of you who are/have been involved in hiring for these types of positions, how long does it typically take to fill a residency position? How many are generally hired for a NICU residency?

Just call HR and ask what that status means there.

Every hospital system is different! I'd start by getting in touch with human resources if you want to better understand their lingo/terminology/application process. Personally, I found most HR places to be completely out of touch and disorganized.

Also, see if that hospital has a nurse recruiter! Computer stuff can stink and be very impersonal. Getting a contact is key. Most residencies are part of a program for new grads, and the more people you can get in touch with the better! It may make the difference of your resume getting looked at and passed on to the right units/people.

Also, If you did clinicals or a capstone or have any connections to the units of interest, I would also reach out to them

If it says "closed" and you weren't contacted, either you were not chosen to interview or they have decided not to hire for the position.

A lot depends on the institution, but I have found that while the ability to follow the online application can be nice, it is only as accurate as the person responsible for putting info in is reliable. Your best bet would be to call and follow up on the status of the opening. Given the fact that it is a residency, you are a new grad and it is a high-demand specialty area, it is likely the job posting is over and the position or positions filled. I know for our recent NICU residency we got over 400 applications for 10 openings.

Call your recruiter and see if you got the job. If you don't have a recruiter or didn't have an interview, you probably weren't selected or they decided not to hire for this position. The only way to know is to reach out to HR/whatever department does the recruiting for your org.
