Hi, I have a question for you guys. Do NICUs have to have do MDS's and have mds coordinators for the long term NICU babies. I work in a level II so I really haven't had to deal with really long term care with infants. We do take babies back to feed/grow and we don't have to do MDS's. Just wondered about NICUs.

No one knows what the heck I am talking about, right? LOL, I didn't either, another nurse asked me about this and I did some research, I guess since I didn't get any responces that you guys don't have to do MDS's for the medicaid babies in the NICU. Thanks, Criss

I don't know what MDS stands for, we have a person assigned by the hospital who signs mom and baby up for medicaid and handles all the paperwork. All we do is pay for it.

MDS's are an assessment that you do for medicaid that tells what the payment will be. They do it for kids in LTC, so I was wondering since you guys keep the kids sometimes for a really long time did they do this. Guess not, probably because they have never left acute care. Thanks for the info!
