NICU New Grad Programs

Published

Hi all,

Can any of you recommend a new grad nursing program in the NICU? Anywhere in the US works for me!

Thanks in advance :)

Kosair Children's hospital in Louisville

Thank you! I'm going to look at the details and apply! So the Kosair NICU will hire new grads? I have a BS in another field and my ASN obviously in nursing. Do they consider ASN candidates?

A majority of new hires are new grads. Most are graduates of local colleges who did an externship in the NICU, but I was hired out of state as a new grad (had a NICU externship at another Level IV NICU). We will be hiring 20 nurses between June and July. I don't know how many of those slots are already filled. The hospital hires ASN nurses, but obviously a BSN is desirable.

The hospital is currently having a new grad nurse hiring fair, but they will have another in May/June.

I just spoke with a nurse recruiter and I will be applying for RN jobs - she said the graduate event is for spring grads and I graduated in Decemeber. NICU or peds are the areas I really desire to be in. From your experience it sounds like many are hired because they did their externship/preceptorship in NICU, but do any get hired into NICU/Peds without having that background? My school didn't allow us to go into NICU/Peds for our preceptorship í ½í¸• Thank you for all of your input!!

Hi!! I am moving to Alaska this summer, around July/ August time frame and I am looking into working at Providence Medical Center. Preferably the NICU or PICU. Do you work there? If so, how do you like the NICU?

I graduate in May, I wasn't sure how likely it is to get into the NICU as a new grad. Thank you for any info!! :)

I currently live in Louisville and graduate with my ADN in December. I saw there were a few openings in the NICU you posted but was curious if you had any tips a new grad getting hired? I've applied a few times without any luck :(

There is not much you can do academically with 2 months to go in school. Try applying to Baptist and U of L NICUs. You might also try getting another nursing job at Kosair (soon to be Norton Children's) and transfer after the 6 months.
