NICU ICU

Published

Hi everyone :) I am new to this. I am going for a NICU interview on monday. I have been working as a registered nurse for the past 4 years however not in PICU or NICU it has been Haem, Ortho and aged care. I am freaking about the possible interview questions and answers. My whole purpose of becoming a registered nurse was neonatal babies. I myself as a pre mature baby and my mum passed away while giving birth. I am really interested in this area and this is an amazing opportunity. Any help at all would be greatly appreciated :)

p.s Hope all of you guys are having a great day!!

Given that you have no actual NICU experience, I doubt you'll be asked questions about actual NICU clinical situations. What the interviewers may want to know is why you want to work there, that you've been a good employee and coworker at your current and previous positions, and possibly that you have good customer service and conflict resolution skills. I know nothing about NICU, but I've worked in ICU for 35 years, and when we interview someone with no ICU experience, we figure we can teach you to take care of our patients. What we're looking for is someone we want to work with.

My advice would be: Do not overthink the interview. Considering that you have had some nursing experience, you are a little bit more grounded than a new grad and that is to your advantage. It will be intimidating (as any new area of practice would be) but keep in mind while interviewing "Why do I want to be a NICU nurse?" and "How will this opportunity prove different from your previous nursing work/What will I gain from this experience?" I personally believe that your passion for any work speaks louder than just answering questions correctly.

Good luck to you!

The interview will be entirely focused on you and why you want to work in NICU. There will be no NICU centered questions.
