OK, generally I think semi privates suck. But, had a good experience with them today.
bed A is non cardiac chest pain, older man. Bed B is man in 40s, needs surgery, no family with him (lives hours away)
Bed A was being discharged. before leaving, pt and his wife ask pt in bed B if he needs anything from downstairs, wishes him luck, etc. they'd never met him before, but were being very pleasant :)
Oh yeah, sometimes they can be great. I've had some moms (I work antepartum....some pts are there for months!) become good friends having been roomies--they stay in touch after the babies are born, etc.
