I am new here and have been reading a lot of posts. Can't really find one that is recent relating to my situation so here I am. I graduated 10 years ago and practiced very briefly (6 months), then had to move to a different country that I couldn't practice Nursing. My background is Sales unrelated to healthcare. Now that we've immigrated to the US, I was able to process my license and now I am in the process of looking for a job.

I am desperate if someone is willing to give me some advice. There's not really a lot of New grad residency program here in my city, most of them are already occupied and I've read they are VERY competitive. What is the best way for me to get back in to the nursing industry? Any advice would be much appreciated. I'm really stressing out and going down into depression. ?

Thank you in advance.

@the climb Can you please tell me what you used to help you study? Being that you've been out of nursing school so long ago. I'm in the same boat, graduated top of my class in 2016, worked on my temp license through March of 2017, but due to several events in my life didn't take boards. It seems as if I've forgotten so much, but I've been studying the last couple weeks and so much has began coming back to me. I'm wondering what's best for someone like me to pass boards since it's so hard to find in person refresher courses/classes due to covid nowadays.

@bcb5rn Can you tell me what you studied? What helped you pass boards?

I was in the same place… as time went on and I didn’t take my boards (life, new career as flight attendant) and in no time 6 years went by and I thought it would be impossible to pass.I had a break from flying and decided to study…  I did UWorld and just doing all those questions helped to A. understand NCLEX style questions, what to look for and how to answer and B. Gave me the general nursing content I had forgotten. I tried to do Kaplan but just ended up using it as a resource…I felt it was sooo in depth it was taking me forever to get through it and overwhelming. So after 5 months of UWorld and reviewing areas I felt really weak, I took it and passed. It was terrifying and no joke… definitely thought I failed… but I passed : )Now I kick myself, because I spent more time avoiding it with the weight of taking it one day… than it actually took me to study and pass it! Hope this helps and wishing you the best of luck!

@NurseBFix

Hello I did the 35 days boot camp in ontario.. and then I didn't take the NCLEX right away because even though its extensive review I felt like its wasnt still enough.. I went home and re read my rachell allen notes for 3x while im answering UWorld (repeated 2x) , la charity and Saunders.. I know it sounds overwhelming but I did it in my own phase.. I didn't allow other people to pressure me to take the NCLEX right away esp. they think that 35 days is enough.. it took me almost 5 months after the booth camp before I took the exam! I did it one time and felt like I was just answering a quiz ?

p.s those books mentioned are helpful and tje UWorld super help me and theyre up to date

Hey,

I graduated from nursing school over 6 years ago... and just applied for a job this week as a new grad with no experience (been a flight attendant for the last 5 years). First interview I had, an offer was made at a LTACH. Have 2 more interviews lined up. Just go on indeed, post your resume and include your most recent job experience as well as your educational info and you'll get plenty of options. Nurses are in such high demand everywhere so it's a great time for you to get your start. Best of Luck on your search : )

Hiii

I do have my resume up on indeed and other online job hunt websites. I just got a part time job. I'm going to see how it goes. I already enrolled in a RN refresher course starting on the 3rd week of this month. It's gonna be 6 months long but I'll take it. It's the only one in my county. Good luck on your interviews. I hope you get the one you want. ❤️

Hi hopefulnurse3111, I graduated from nursing school in 2016 and life happened to me, but I passed the NCLEX a few weeks ago. Everything has been going great, I had about 6 job offers. I have a full time (12 hr shifts) and a PRN job. Have you passed your NCLEX yet?

Hi hopefulnurse! I graduated 2009 and just recently passed my NCLEX April this year. I am also from California. I want to get an idea about the refresher course if you enroll in the class.  I currently work as an LVN in a clinic setting. I'm hoping I can contact you directly? thanks!

Just came on here to see how everyone is going. Any updates?  Those that had a large gap from when you graduated and getting a job how was it once you started?  It’s been over 11 years for me and just got 2 job offers in a hospital and I’m terrified of failing LOL.

I was in a similar situation. Graduated twelve years ago during recession, unable to find a job. I took a refresher course and got a job with tree months of orientation for new grads. Very stressful, but I am almost done with orientation.

An initial anxiety is transitioning into pride.?
