Newly Licensed RN, No Experience, Graduated 10 Years Ago
Congrats! Reading your post I had to double check that it wasn’t something I had written because it sounded identical to my situation. After a 12 year gap and a refresher course I’m also about to come off of my 3 month orientation. It’s so good to see people overcoming this and being successful.

Looking for some serious advice for an old new grad
Hey. I’ve had two interviews for hospital positions but got rejected for both. No surprises there really. Haven’t signed up for the course yet. Just so nervous to spend all the time and money to again not have a good outcome. It’s hard to stay positive after everything I’ve been through. Even the two rejections I had recently makes me feel like im just not meant to be a nurse. I feel like even with a course everyone will just see me as a liability. When does your program start?

Don’t have any advice but wanted to just say I’m in the same position as you. Graduated 11 years ago and was never able to find work as a new grad and am now looking at trying again. You can find refresher courses that are self paced and all online and then you complete so many hours of clinical. Some require you to attend labs in person but that doesn’t work for everyone like myself who needs to work full time. No other income to rely on. I just wanted to come on here and post that you’re not alone. I’ve had one interview for a new grad residency which went well but was told to complete a refresher course and then reach back out to her because so much has changed in 10 years.

Looking for some serious advice for an old new grad
I graduated from an associate program in 2010. Unfortunately during this time the field was extremely difficult for new grads to get their foot in the door. I had to relocate right after nursing school which I believe is what hurt me the most. Unfortunately I was never able to land a job. I looked for 2 years in 3 different states with no luck. I got a good job as an oil refinery operator and a member of the fire brigade. I enjoyed the job and was frustrated with not being able to find work with nursing so I stayed at the oil refinery for 8 years until I lost my job due to covid. Now that I don’t have that job I am interested in trying to make nursing work again. I know it’s a long shot but I’ve kept my license active and it’s what I went to school for after all. I’ve applied to jobs but of course no luck. Is there any chance at all of ever being able to be a nurse? I’m contemplating taking a refresher course but wondering if that will even help me or not. If anyone has any advice at all I’d love to hear it. Thank you so much.
