Are nurses right out of school able to go right to Orthopedic Nursing or do you have to do time on a regular floor? I just took my NET last week and applied for nursing school for the fall. Ive wanted to do orthopedic as well but didnt want to go to a regular floor. I was always more interested in sports injuries and that sort of stuff. Can nurses work with those kind of injuries and patients? I'm still trying to find out more info on these things.

Specializes in ORTHOPAEDICS-CERTIFIED SINCE 89.

Unfortunately to the outside world ortho *IS* a regular floor. And yes you can go right into it as a new graduate.

We have fought this battle for years.."ORTHO not other...." You know the boxes you check on forms etc?

When you apply tell them you want ortho. In my state there are usually openings. Good luck!!

Does anyone know the starting salary in this department?
