Hardware removal post finger fracture

Published

41YO Female with spiral fracture of ring finger on dominant hand had surgery and is not healing as expected, very limited ROM.  Came in for a second opinion and our doctor determined that the screw is too long and not appropriate for the injury and needs to come out.  We have never had to remove internal hardware from a patient before, does anyone have any experience with this?

We have a hand team where I am. Is it a K-wire or something bigger? They should be able to pull it out.

Thanks all. It was a newly patented cannulated screw. Screw came out pretty easy and the scar tissue cleaned up. She had improved ROM immediately post op.
