New York University (NYU) ABSN fall 2019

Nursing Students School Programs

Published

It's a little early but I figured I would start this thread as we all begin to get our applications in!

Alilani, Blessedbutstressed and Lollil I hope you don't mind me asking... What other schools did you apply/get accepted to so far and what are your reasons for NYU being your top choice? or if a different school is your top choice where and why? (question really open to anyone- I'd love to gain more insight on the pros and cons of the various programs). Thank you in advance ?

For all of you who are waiting, good luck! If you have been accepted and deciding between a couple of schools or unsure about NYU, I would highly suggest going to the accepted student night. You can ask their staff and students questions and see their simulation center. I know it helped me a lot, so I wanted to let you guys know ?

Hi can I ask you where else you applied and what made you choose NYU? I have a friend there now and she says that the extra $40,000 isn't really worth it and that the student body is very big and they are very inflexible about your schedule... she's only one person and not a bsn rn yet so i just want to know what you heard and if nyu holds more weight in the medical world?

@ysh the other school I got into was Molloy. NYU and Molloy are both ranked pretty equally regarding their nursing programs. I live on Long Island and Molloy is very highly regarded for nursing around here. However, NYU is my top choice for two reasons 1. I wouldn't have to repeat any prerequisites and 2. Their program is shorter and I'll become a nurse faster. Molloy's program is called accelerated but it is two years PLUS a summer semester. In the end I'll do whatever I have to do but NYU is a more direct path to my goal!

thanks for the quick reply. Do you know anything about Mount Sinai or LIU compared to NYU other than cost of course?

I called admissions 2 weeks ago and he told me my application was reviewed. He said I’d hear soon, figured I’d be hearing sometime this week, haven’t yet. The suspense is killing me and I’m trying to really prepare myself already in which school I’ll go. NYU is my top choice

I applied mid February and heard back in the first round of decisions. Also to people asking for stats, I don’t think that’s really something you can rely on to estimate if you’ll get in or not, because people get rejected with better stats sometimes and people get accepted with worse! I think there’s a lot of consideration going into experience, letters of rec, and probably the personal essay as well. I just say this because I have plenty of B’s in several of my prereqs, but I got in. I just don’t think the “comparing stats” game is necessarily a reliable angle! Good luck to everyone still waiting!!

Hi! I put my deposit into Loyola Chicago in February but I heard back from Duke last week so I’m in between Duke and NYU. I also got into George Washington but declined them. I would prefer to be at NYU because of the hospital network they have established. I also find NY healthcare policies to be more progressive and the current research going on at NYU hospitals is really intriguing to me. I’d like to also get my masters from there because I hope to become an NP ? NYU offers more diversity than my other schools which is a big factor since I come from a culturally diverse background.

I applied on April 1st and just got my acceptance. Accepted here and to Mt. Sinai

I have also been accepted to both and having a difficult time deciding between the 2! Are you leaning more towards any particular school?

i also applied to CUNY ABSN program and was accepted last week. I guess it saves me having to make a decision I suppose. My stats weren't that great, I didnt focus earlier in school in my previous major.. mostly Bs and one C in chemistry in pre-reqs.

Which CUNY program did you get into?

Leaning towards NYU, the extra money is off putting but a job is pretty much guaranteed afterwards so youd def be able to pay them back (although I heard Mt. Sinai put out a memo theyre hiring 140+ new nurses & im assuming they’d consider their own students favorably). I also heard some ppl dont show up for class at NYU because everything is podcasted which sounds flexible to me ??‍♀️ Who are you leaning towards and why? I need counsel too!

I was accepted to Pace and NYU. Pace is cheaper and faster, but their simulation lab was very small compared to NYU. Also, their clinical sites could be anywhere in the tri state area. I didn't want to commute super far for clinicals. NYU labs were very nice and their students had good feedback. The program was created so that the subjects align and students understand and apply the materials better. Both schools are great, but I always wanted to go to NYU. A lot of NYU students that I met were able to have a part time job, when I had my interview at Pace they said working during the program will be really hard. ABSN programs are all very intense, you won't have any flexibility in your schedule because the programs are so short. They create your schedule for you, so I am not sure how would someone be flexible in this sitiation. Which schools are you deciding between?
