I recently started working as a school nurse in NYC for a middle school with 5th and 6th graders. The health records are a bit haphazard and the previous school nurse left before I could receive any new training. I am a new grad so I'm not quite sure of the health requirements and my responsibility in fulfilling those with the school. If anyone could direct me to some resources specific to NYC DOE or provide me with insight that would be great!
A few questions:
-How often do physicals need to be completed? Annually? Is this the same thing as the Child & Adolescent Health Examination form?
-What screenings are mandatory? (vision, hearing, scoliosis?)
-Can nurses administer OTC medication in the nurses office? Or do I also need a Medication Administration Form for that?
