Hello, I recently started working as a school nurse in NYC for a middle school with 5th and 6th graders. The health records are a bit haphazard and the previous school nurse left before I could receive any new training. I am a new grad so I'm not quite sure of the health requirements and my responsibility in fulfilling those with the school. If anyone could direct me to some resources specific to NYC DOE or provide me with insight that would be great! A few questions: -How often do physicals need to be completed? Annually? Is this the same thing as the Child & Adolescent Health Examination form? -What screenings are mandatory? (vision, hearing, scoliosis?) -Can nurses administer OTC medication in the nurses office? Or do I also need a Medication Administration Form for that? Any help would be very useful!

Yeah, that's what I thought too. I was surprised when they mentioned that in the financial aid email so I asked. I'm still hoping we receive a phone call bc that would mean less waiting, but I'm mentally prepared to wait through the first week of March. Hopefully we wont have to.

In their open house, they had a packet which broke down approximate cost by degree. These are the numbers: ETP BS: $75,000 MS Programs: $48,000 DNP Programs: $60,000 PhD Programs: $85,000 They also said that the programs would end up costing less than the listed cost because they assumed you would be taking the maximum number of credits for each degree. Moreover, CUSON awards a $25,000 scholarship for the first year and it says in my packet a $10,000 scholarship for the MS portion. I know the $25k scholarship is awarded to over 90% of students but I'm not too sure about the 10k scholarship. Hope this helps!

Sooo I called admissions the other day to ask when we would hear back and they said the first week of March. I'm not sure if that means by March 1st or after that. Also, I asked about how we would be informed of the decision. All of the applicants received an email for the priority financial aid deadline and in it they said they would be "mailing decisions later this spring." I was surprised bc in the past applicants were notified by phone. But I asked admissions and they said that we would be notified through a mailed letter. Mail takes a while so we may know even after March 1st! Eh, waiting.

Thanks for all the useful information hopeful, bardone, koke, etc. I feel better prepared now! Just packed a pair of flats in my purse :) I'll be interviewing tomorrow. Feeling both nervous and excited! Good luck on your interviews everyone!!!!!

My interviewer was also an admissions counselor, Danelle Alton. I had gone to JHU for an info session earlier this year and she was the same woman who gave the tour. She's really nice. She said we'd hear back in March, but based on past threads for this program it seems that people found out if they were admitted into the bachelors and masters portions separately. People found out if they were admitted to the bachelors portion prior to hearing about the masters portion. So I'm not really sure exactly when.

I'm applying to the direct entry msn program. This waiting game is making me nervous. I wish I had an idea of acceptance rates or when we'd hear back. I called admissions and asked them and now they are saying february/march so I really have no clue. Are the aBSN and direct entry MSN applicants being considered together? What program are you all applying to?

Thanks for the good wishes everyone! The interview was laid back and more like a conversation. The woman who interviewed me was really friendly. She pretty much asked me the same types of questions as you, nautica193. Why MSN? Why JHU? Difference between an NP and a doctor? Personal experiences that have shaped you professionally? Current national and international issues in nursing? Why nursing? And then she asked me to rate myself on public speaking, test taking, writing, and time management. I loved Hopkins before, but I love Hopkins even more now after the interview! This waiting game is going to kill me! She said we hear back in MARCH (sooo far away!!) Good luck on your interviews everyone else! Just walk in and be yourself. :)

@lifeismuzik I'm pretty sure it was Dr. Anne O'Sullivan. She was the cute lady with the bun and glasses? Developed the consensus model and spoke at the beginning of the open house. Do you remember the names of the others who were at the FNP session?

I'm interviewing with Hopkins TOMORROW (ahhhhh!). A little nervous to say the least. And I'm interviewing with Penn on Monday. I'll post about my interview tomorrow. Bardone, good luck with your interview! Let me know how it goes :)

Hi nautica! I'm so happy you created this discussion thread! I'm surprised there isn't one already. I applied for summer entry also, but I applied for regular decision. Have you done your interview already? What was it like?

I submitted my application in October and I asked when we would hear back and they said late November or early December (which is like now). I haven't heard anything though.
