Hello All!!!
I decided to reach out to you all to get some insight. I've been applying to NYP for a nursing attendant position for MONTHS to no avail. Has anyone applied successfully? What qualifications did you have outside of being a BSN student? Any insight would be greatly appreciated.
A Little about me:
Accelerated BSN student
3.5 GPA
Expected graduation 8/2014
Medical Billing experience
2 Clinical rotations completed
PLEASE HELP!

I did as well - I have CNA experience, years of volunteer experience, senior in BSN program - and NO DICE. They sent me a rejection email after my second or third application. I don't think they're actually hiring for these positions - they're CONSTANTLY posted, never seem to change or get updated or removed. I might be wrong, but color me skeptical, something is fishy there...

Isn't NYP a union (1199) shop? In that case maybe there is something going on between the union and hospital that gives preference to internal or other members that apply for nursing assistant positions.
The position is listed as nursing attendant, not as a tech/PCT/assistant. Sounds like a mix of 1:1 and volunteer type work, described as "assisting patients with feeding, maintaining personal hygiene, providing support with ambulation, and obtaining vital signs." Some CNA elements in there but it seems like CNA-lite. Honestly, if they want you to be a nursing assistant they should just say so and pay the going rate for a CNA...rather than pay a nursing student less and change the title.
