Need a Job in NY

U.S.A. New York

Published

Hello all,

I just passed the NCLEX RN and I have a valid NY license now.

I am a Canadian RN who would like to move to NY if there is a job.

It seems that all the hospitals are not sponsoring nurses from other countries now but I am wondering if you guys could just help me with throwing some ideas. (such as agencies..hospitals that hires foreign nurses...)

I feel anxious now because it seems that there is no ways to get a job in NY at this moment?

any ideas? or anything that you can share?

THanks

Congratulations on passing the NCLEX! Whewww! At least that is done.

I guess it all depends on where in NY you want to work. I am licensed in NJ and have been thinking about working in NY (manhattan). However, there are very few if any jobs for new grads anywhere in the tri state area. If you have the option.. look else where. I graduated in December 2010 and I am still looking for a job. I do not have the option to move so I will have to ride the wave of unemployment. Other things to do: volunteer, certification classes, nursing home if they hire new grads.

Best,

CL

Thanks.

I am sorry to hear that you are still looking for a job. I think it is a trend both in Canada and USA.

I was lucky to be hired right after I graduated last year but it seems that many new grads are struggling to get a job now...

I am thinking of getting some help from agencies..oh, when you mention certification classes what is that?

you work as a nurse and teach classes?

good luck for finding a sponsor and a job. First, I dont think you can get green card based on employment. there is no enough visas left for nurses. But because you are a canadian, thru NAFTA you may get it. I know nurses who got sponsorship from hospitals but couldnt get green card because there arent enough visas. i would hire an immigration lawyer first. Secondly, job market is not good even for experienced nurses. i have applied 100s and 100s positons in NYC but nothing not even a damn phone call or an-email. if i were you i would work in canada first get some experience in ED, ICU, Tele after that if i could try to work in NY.
