LAGCC RN Program Spring'16

U.S.A. New York

Published

Hi Everyone!!!!!

I am soooo happy and excited that my friends and I are all accepted by the program.

I believe whoever applied Spring 2016 at LAGCC should know their results already.

Hopefully, we all get the results we want.

Just want to create this thread to make nursing friends, study buddies, and share helpful tools, study tips, etc.

The competition with others is finished. Now it is the battle inside ourselves: how to stay focused and study hard?!

Let's rock it!!!

BTW,Tomorrow is the orientation day. :)

I'm going on to med surg at lagcc next semester, the competition isn't over believe me! You'll get points on tests based on your performance with your peers, constantly. The worse everyone does, the better it is for you. Reality. Good luck.

OMG!!!Thanks for replying me! I am so new to the program. So...next semester is your second semester in the program, right? How was your first semester? What should I expect?

I heard nursing exams are totally different from other subjects. How can I study and be prepared for the exam?

Could you please share with me about your studying resources?

About the textbook, do you have the pdfs?

Sorry that I have so many questions for you. I really do well on the nursing program since it is so hard to get in and I want to stay focused and go straight till the end.

PLEASE help me!!!

I really appreciate it!!

Second semester, yes. The first semester was very rough, about 30 people failed and some dropped after second exam. Expect lots of reading in short time, memorizing new terminology, and medications.

First test will be easiest, get a high score. Yes, these types of tests don't check memory like anatomy, similar to IQ tests. You'll most likely be getting same or similar grades over and over. Example student gets 92 first exam, 78 second, 76 third, 85 final - no drastic jumps (those were the grades of the student with the highest grade in the combined two classes). You should invest in the textbook because it comes with a website and a code to a website that has tests. I noticed a correlation between those that failed - most of them were using pdf. Too many pages to print and the ones with iPads always squinting and stuff. Rent it out for $30 bucks if you have to, you'll be carrying it around everywhere.

Wow so many people failed.

How many medications do we have to know for the first semester?

The exams were crazy. I can't believe those were the highest scores for each exam last semester. OMG, I dont know how I can handle it.

I have not received any syllabus yet but could you please share with me yours or just briefly tell me what topics waas covered? Thanks!

I will buy the used textbooks for sure but will not get the code. With the code, the book is too expensive. I am asking for pdfs just for convenience because it is fast when search a keyword/certain content on pdf.Do you use any books for practicing questions?

How about the lab and clinical?which hospital did u go?

I am assigned to QHC.

What should we do in the lab and hospital as a first semester student?

Thanks!!!

I went to QHC as well! If you have professor Ellis as a clinical instructor, clinical will be your favorite. Don't get too caught up on clinical though, at the end of the day, your test grades are all that matter. If caring was all you needed to be a nurse, everyone and their mothers would be nurses. 15 medications; Heparin, Warfarin, Nitroglycerin, Morphine, Demerol, Tylenol, Aspirin, 4 types of insulin, Albuterol is what I can remember off the top of my head. Remember the nursing implication (what you have to do; check pulse, monitor heart rate, count respiration - basically vital signs), what classification (example - Albuterol is a bronchodilator) and adverse effects along with side effects. As for the syllabus for the first two weeks chapter 1-5 15 16 17 21 23 (basically nursing process - assessment diagnosis planning implementation evaluation). If you can have this done before class begins you will be gold for the first exam.

Cool! The professors haven't showed in CUNYFIRST yet, probably next Tuesday.

15 medications aren't bad. Are we allowed to use any PDAs for checking medications or diseases in the hospital?

Wow those are the chapters for the first exam? 10 chapters....how could these be done? Any tips for reading and studying the textbook?

BTW, for the lecture, professors use ppt, right? Are we allowed to record the lecture? Is the lecture pace very quick?

How is the nursing exams look like? 50 multiple choice questions in 70 minutes?

Oh btw, the kaplan assessment thing! What are we tested on?

Congratulations!

Do you mind telling me your grades in key courses?

Congratulations!

Thanks!!

I have 3As and 1B in my key courses. Are you planning to apply for the Fall 2016?

Can I ask what are you up to? Finished all the key courses?

Congrats to everyone who got in! As you may know, we should have uploaded medical records by now. But I have an issue, my doctor was on vacation until recently, so my titers were done recently as well. I'm just waiting for my records to upload them. How long did you blood tests took? And the drug test? Should I just call my doctor and check if he has it by now?

I have a friend who just graduated from LGA and recently got a job! Good luck to you in this journey! I'm applying to csn in Yonkers bc I can't afford to go to school in the am! Anyways good luck I Heard the program is amazing !!!! Congratssss
