New way to treat PTSD in combat veterans

Published

Hi, I'm an lpn...my husband is a combat vet with PTSD and mtbi he sustained from multiple ied's rpgs, mortars etc....

Anyway, I figured anyone reading this read would be interested in the science behind it, or have some insight into effective ways to treat combat ptsd.

My husband used to take up to 15 pills a day for various reasons....several psych meds.

Its called the Stellate Ganglion Block. We went to Chicago on January 17th, 2012 and he did this procedure under fluroscopy. Isnt' that neat?

Its just another way folks. Please educate yourself and others about this treatment. Even though its only been 11 days,we have seen a marked improvement in ptsd behaviors.

I am incredibly interested in finding new ways to treat old problems....

stellate ganglion blocks have been used for years in chronic pain syndromes and for vasodilation. how did someone think to try it on your husband? (and congratulations on his improvement!) :heartbeat

(i went and read it, and it's really cool.)

Thank you for the information!

My husband is also a combet vet and he started off with the usual method of the VA "medicate it and ignore it" regarding PTSD. So, we found this therapy through Emory that uses virtual reality to relive one of the events. The psychologist is able to put in helicopters, bombs going off, gunshots, and even put in smells to totally relive everything that happened. He or she forces the vet to face the emotions during the battle. My husband would come out of his sessions sweating and shaking. The therapy lasted for 6 months and it is AMAZING how it helped him. Our marriage was saved thanks to this program and I couldn't be anymore happier with how he is able to deal with everything now.

So glad that we're starting to have effective ways to deal with PTSD. These are truly amazing breakthroughs. Very happy for our members and their spouses that have found treatment that works.
