New VA job Advice

I have accepted a new job at the VA for the Mental Health Care line. I know every VA is different but does anyone know what I can expect?

Also, I am leaving my current job where I have a great schedule. My current job is offering me more money to stay as well. I also will have a longer commute to work at the VA.

Are the VA benefits that good? I am so torn right now. The potential benefits (pension, insurance, etc.) and the gamble I could qualify for a education scholarship are the only pros right now for the VA.

Any advice or opinions would be greatly appreciated.

Think about it. Im in the process of having to make the same decisions. Take a pay cut for better benefits. It may not make sense now but in the long run I believe it will definitely pay off.

Depends. Where I live the VA is the highest paying hospital. Govt bennies are great but you have to keep an eye on the current situation now that Trump is president. He has said he wants to switch the govt retirement to a 401K style. If that does happen and your current place has the same thing AND is offering you more money then I say stay.

I know. He's made a lot of statements. Including privatization of the VA. As well as, a freeze on the hiring of government employees.
