New Traveler

I am going to be traveling in a few months and I just wanted to know if fully furnished apartments are available. What does everyone do with there belongings. I have a fully furnished townhome in Maryland and I am wondering what to do. I guess the option is either storage, yard sale, or opting to look for my own private housing in which I could drag my belongings accross the country. What do most nurses do.!

Again, depends on your company for what they provide. Some are fully furnushed with dishes, linens, iron, etc. Others are only bare furniture and no tv. Check with your agency.

Are you keeping your townhome or moving completely out of it?

I rent a townhome so I am just moving , thanks for the advice.

Laura;

I am anticipating my first travel position soon and am in the same situation as you, fully furnished apartment. My solution, "loan" my household furnishings to my daughter and her fiance' while I travel. I'm drawing up a list of what they use, we'll make a contract between us on their up-keep, wear & tear, and maintance of my stuff while I travel. I'm shooting to "try" this out for the first couple of assignments to see how it works for all of us. Naturally, I will have to store boxes of stuff in a storage unit, but the thought of mice gnawing at my lovely upholstery on my new sofas make me cringe. They're very appreciative and I think will work for us all. It will give me time to "get my feet wet" and them to get "on their feet". :chuckle Hope this helps you. My problem is NOT to over pack like I usually do when I'm on vacation.....

I know a lot of people don't do this, but to get the tax free benefit legally, do you not have to maintain a home for you (not rented to someone else), in one state, and pay upkeep on it? Otherwise, if you are just moving from state to state, I believe you have to file taxes as an "Itinerant worker" and pay tax on all your earnings.

Apparently it is not often that people are "caught" but also apparently when they are discovered, it is pretty harsh.
