I am starting this semester at Pima Community College's nursing program. I am a little aprehensive since it's been over ten years since I have graduated from High School. Is anyone out there familiar with Pima's program, and give me some insight as to what to expect. Thanks,Tracy:

you probably know by now...challenging program, great instructors, fun to do. It will be great for you as many of the students are return or not the traditional college student. You will love nursing. Make sure you do everything on time and ask for help at the first sign of needing it. Don't wait until you are in over your head to ask for anything. You will do great! Best to you,

I graduated from PCC in 1992, and it was AWFUL. Very negative experience. Sounds like things have changed since then. I sure hope so!
So sorry your experience was negative. I had a few challenges, but found that overall the program was really great. The good thing is that the foundation is there and if you choose to explore the options, at least the inital part of having the degree is done. Nursing is truly a profession of 'what you make it', in my personal estimation. Hope your pasteurs got greener.

Thanks for the encouragement and good advice. I am enjoying the classes that I have signed up for so far. I am sure as I advance into the actual nursing classes, biology, anatomy, etc,it will be come more intence. So far so good. Thanks again, Tracy

I just graduated from The Maricopa community college district/Gateway community college. At times I was in tears, stressed to the MAX and really hated it !! THEN there were the times I felt great about what I was doing and had a wonderful time !!!! As for my self it had been 20 years since I had been in school, so yes it was a little scary, but you will be surprised at how old some of your classmates will be !!!! YOU WILL DO GREAT !!!!!!!!!! hang in there !!!!!!!!!!!!!
Thanks for the encouragment. So far so good. I have been advised by several graduates of the nursing course to purchase an anatomy book, prior to taking the course,so I can start to familiarize my self with the many body parts that I will be expected to memorize. Does this sound like good advice? Thanks Tracy
Yes .......... they should have a required text for the class, but there are other study guides that willl be very beneficial to making it through the class GOOD LUCK !!!!!!!!!

I graduated from Pima last year, passed the NCLEX on first try and got a job right away. Pima is now ranked the highest for passing the NCLEX the first time in the state of Arizona according to the board of nursing. It's a great program, with great instructors AND you start clinicals the first semester. Sure, there were students who had issues with instructors, etc, but that happens everywhere. I have nothing but good things to say or think about Pima. It was hard, but I like a challenge. Feel free to PM me if you want more info.
Good luck!

I'm in the first semester of the nursing program at Pima, and so far, so good! I just get sick of all the videos we have to watch in skills lab!
