New student here at Hondros

U.S.A. Ohio

First off, since this is my first post, I would like to say hello to everyone here! :w00t:

I have been trolling this site and forum for several months ever since I decided to make the switch to nursing school. I was at the University of Cincinnati for 3 years (2 years in business and 1 year in IT) before I decided to look into their nursing school. But their waiting list was over a year long. So after looking on here I saw the list of schools with no waiting list and saw Hondros on in. I just started my classes on Monday (Jan 7th) so I've only been in it for about a week now. But so far it seems good, the only thing I can compare it to is business and IT classes at UC. But if anyone has any questions about Hondros I would be more than happy to answer them for you. Also just FYI I'm taking my classes at the West Chester and Mason locations.

I am at the West Chester, Mason location. I found out today one of my friends didn't pass her lab final, now she has to repeat the class, she had a B in the class. I just don't get it, how are they going to let some retake it to pass, and make others repeat the whole class? Isn't their someone to report this to? I meet with them tomorrow about my grade, wish me luck.

If you fail lab or clinicals you have to repeat the whole class. I know it sucks but it counts as 1 class, so you have to pass all in order to move forward.

Yeah, I know, it stinks for my friend though that she didn't get the same treatment as the other person who got a second chance to retake the lab final that day.....So I had my meeting with the dean today and he gave me 0.8 back on one of my homework papers, and guess what? I could have died instead of 69.8 they gave me 69.9. I just don't get it. Why are they playing games? I feel like it was planned or something. Kind of like throwing a steak to a starving dog stuck behind a glass window. I am hearing all sorts of stories about special treatment. I have decided to call corporate to inform them of the situation, and if they don't do anything it will be my attorney that they deal with. I have to exhaust all my options before I can let this go. :scrying:

I agree with the special treatment---I have seen it myself many times. I'm sorry you're going through this much trouble. Hopefully you will be able to finish the program at Hondros and then be done with that school forever. That is my plan at least. I definitely will not be going on to the RN program there.

Hello all! Was wondering if anyone had info on 2nd term clinicals. Just interested. I wish there was more info available on the classes.

Just to clarify, this school doesn't allow someone to start an RN program right away? You have do the LPN program for 44 weeks, THEN start the 66 week ADN program?

Don't know what happened to my last post. I'm not sure I understand your question. Hondros offers both portions. If you are already an LPN, you can apply directly for the RN portion. Both programs combined are pretty much the same length of time you would find anywhere else to receive your ADN in nursing. It allows flexibility for those who only want their LPN. After the LPN portion, you can choose to go straight into the RN portion, or stop and work as an LPN once you pass your boards. Just know that because you were in the LPN portion, does not mean you will be accepted into the RN portion. You have to reapply, and they will look at your attendance, grades, etc. Hope this helps answer your question.

I am thinking of going to Hondros and starting in July. I have read some discouraging things on here...I am currently attending Miami University. I am just wanting to get done faster. How are the clinicals going? Do things seem to be a little more organized now? I am not wanting to compromise my education for speed. Anything you can tell me would be so helpful. Thanks.

Christina :D

I attend Hondros in Columbus. I started clinicals last week and I don't really have any negative issues so far with my experience at all. I'm doing rather well; I have a 3.8 GPA. I do study rather hard. There are many though, that do not take time to study and are not doing so well. It's all what you put into it. Good luck with your decision!

Is anyone here attending the one located in West Chester? How are the clinicals going there? I just wanted to see if things seem to be smoothing out in that area. During the orientation/information session I attended they named off several places they are affiliated with for clinicals and I know that several posts on here said they had a hard time finding places to allow their students to go. So, I just thought it to be wise to see if any current students could give me the skinny on that. The best information always comes from those experiencing it.

Thanks so much,

Christina :jester:

hi i am really new at this!!! i have a question... do you have to already have to have your LPN when you start at hondros?? how long is the program at hondros?

No you don't have to be an LPN. They offer both portions of the program; LPN & RN. Both programs together are about 2 1/2 years. LPN - 1 year, RN - 1 1/2.
