Hello all I am deciding to make a career change here! I am a vet Asst. I was coing to get my CVT but decided I like nursing and need to make more money than I would being a CVT. I like doing the veterinary medicine but think it's time to change. I am starting next Monday at RIO Salado I have most of the Pre req's I am taking HCC 145AA & BIO201. I was reading and when can you apply to nursing school? Do I need to finish all the pre-req's then apply? I want to do it through Rio since I have a family and need to work full time.
Does anyone have any feedback on the RIO program. I know it is more disiplined but I have to do it I really have no choice! Please any info at all would be great since I am new to this all! I am very excited to get started!
Thanks for listening!

I took a lot of my pre-req's at Rio and really enjoyed it (but it was a lot of hard work). I would think long and hard about actually going to the nursing school there, if it's even still around (I've heard rumors that it's going away). They've had a lot of problems with the school. If you have the opportunity to be a little flexible I'd look into Grand CAnyon if I were you. From what I've heard they have basically no wait for nursing school (of course check this out, this is just what I've heard and I may be wrong). You may be able to take some pre-req's before at a CC and then transfer in or something, that way it would be cheaper. If you're able to work outside of the house a lot of the hospitals will help pay for school. If I'd had the flexibility to go to a traditional program I would've preferred it.
If you definitely want to go into the CC system then you can apply once you're in your last semester of pre-req's (there's a week that they accept provisional applications). Once your application is accepted you'll be placed on provisional status until you finish that semester. They use a modified lottery system in that when your application is accepted you're issued a date/time stamp. When they do the placement runs they start with the first date/time and work their way down placing people. It's a long drawn out process and there are other ways to get into nursing school a lot quicker, the important thing is to meet with a counselor and start getting your pre-req's out of the way.
Good luck, it's worth it in the end.

One week until block 4 final!!!
I thought that Grand Canyon only offered the RN to BSN progra, or do they also offer a regular nursing program as well? Please let me know cause I would love to gt in and get it done and not have to wait. I would eventually like to get my bachelors as well. I don't have the time either to wait for years to get accepted!

GCU has the ADN-BSN, a regular BSN, and an accelerated BSN as well.
What is ADN-BSN? Sorry I have no clue.
You know, I'm pretty sure they have just a regular BSN program as well. I'm not 100% sure, when I looked into GCU I already had a BS so I was looking into the accelerated BS-BSN program they offered. But I'm pretty sure they have the basic BSN program like ASU. My friend actually teaches there, I should ask her, lolol.
I thought that Grand Canyon only offered the RN to BSN program...
The RN to BSN program is the same as the ADN-BSN program! They are the same thing....
Like I said earlier, GCU as a regular BSN program, an accelerated BSN program for people with BS degrees, and a ADN-BSN program. They have it all.
