I was just hired as the school nurse in my area for the next school year. Was wondering if anyone knew of any sites to get educational posters, handouts, etc.. Also where I can order decorative things such as bulletin boards, posters, pics? Any help will be greatly appreciated!

Aside from getting posters of grade appropriate anatomy or positive health ideas from teacher supply stores, i have found that if you scour government run websites you can often score a lot of really great and free materials. nih.gov is a good start - look under publications and resources. You can get materials from some of the non-profits such a AHA but you often have to pay them a small amount. Also -a lot of the larger companies will send you materials - it's hit or miss on if you have to pay for them. I got some nice stuff from Dole about including fruits and veggies. Also got a really nice teaching plan and materials from Clorox. I'll try to remember to post some links as i come across them.

One word to the wise. Check fire regulations in your town before you spend money on posters and decorations. In my community they are very strict regarding how much and what type of paper can be on the walls. Nothing within 5 feet of a door, only 20% of the wall space can be covered, need to use fireretardant paper etc. And they come several times a year and write up violations. Good luck.

Google Gerry Harvey's web site "Nursing Perspectives". It is loaded with wonderful and useful information for school nurses.
Congrats on the new job. You will love school nursing !
