Some books that may be helpful: Janice Selekman's "Textbook of School Nursing" (I believe that is the title). Learn all you can about vision and hearing screenings. Make sure that you know the mandated abuse reporter guidelines for your state. Know your vaccine schedules.

This site is most useful of all, IMO. YOU WILL LOVE SCHOOL NURSING

www.schoolhealthservicesny.com has been a big help to me!

It has, for me, as well. However, I am VERY concerned that they will be under the NY state budget axe. It will NOT be good for NY state's students! :crying2:

True enough! I want to copy the entire site just in case !!!!!!

Thanks! Any other sites for Texas School Nurses?

Looks like you will be working under the same model as I do--not in one building only. I was the first (and only) nurse hired by my district, so I've sort of shaped the job myself. Since I'm new to this board, I don't know the "rules" about contact off-board, but if someone can set me straight on that, I'd love to correspond with you off-board and share my experiences.

Hey there also just got a job as a school nurse in Texas would love to get in touch with you to have a contact base. Also we can but heads together when we are feeling lost and overwhelmed! I will email you if that is ok!

I was also recently hired for school nurse in Tx (RioGrandeValley). This is a new experience for me and I have not gone to an orientation yet. I am to work in an elementary. I am nervous:eek:, and I want as much information as I can get my hands on to make the transition a little smoother. Any advice, suggestions or sites are sooo appreciated.

Thanx,
