New here and Scholarships?

Hey everyone,

I was wondering if anyone knew of a good place to start looking for nursing scholarships, specific to California?

I'm currently located in Arizona, with plans on relocating to the Long Beach/San Pedro area this coming summer. I'm not yet in a nursing program, but there is a community college in Wilmington that I've found that doesn't have a waiting list into their program. Unfortunately, although I lived in California when I was younger, it's likely that I will have to live there another year before I can get in-state tuition. Because of this, money is going to be incredibly short - depending on the kind of job I can get while attending school. My plan so far has been to spend my first semester there becoming an EMT, transfer over some of my pre-reqs to the program that I've earned here, and work part-time as such while I attend to the nursing program. So far, I haven't been able to find any nursing scholarships specifically for those not yet an RN or LPN. Is that common? I'm aware that there is a plethora of scholarships available once you become an RN and are aiming for higher education, but is there anything available for students working towards their ADN? I do intend on going from an RN-to-BSN after I work for a little while with my ADN. (Life will be more affordable that way.) But before that?

Also, since you guys just got a pretty nice outline of my schooling plans, are there any suggestions? Any things to keep my eyes open for in considering hospitals, schools? I don't know if any of you've gone from an EMT-B to nursing school, but if there is, any tips?

I'm excited about finding this forum. Just reading through the threads has been informative.

Anyway, thanks for any comments :)

Do you know how those sorts of scholarships, within hospital contracts, works as an EMT? More often than not, you have to work at the hospital prior to them paying for the education. Could I contract with a hospital as an EMT and still have that apply? Though, that may be something I can only find out when I speak to the hospital about it.

Thanks a bunch, though :)

I see the Kaiser and Central Valley scholarships but don't know the details.

I found these links for a young LVN who is planning to earn her RN ASAP.
