Hello all
I am based in the UK and am thinking of moving stateside but sadly do NOT want to really work as a nurse there but would like to keep my options open. Could i write the enclex exam before i apply for or get a job?
If yes then where do i enrol to write the test.
All good help appreciated.

Welcome to the site. I moved your post to the International Nursing Forum, where I know you'll be able to get good responses. Good luck to you.

You can apply to a US state, meet the state's eligibility to sit the NCLEX exam, and get a license issued without having a job or definite plans to work.
(Make sure you apply to a state that issues the license even when you don't have a social security number).

Helllo there
Where do i get to know which ones do that. I really just want to go to NYC or California.
Will check out anyway.
Thanx a stax
Check out the thread at the top of the forum called "Primer for nurses wishing to work in US".
You'd be much better to apply for NY than California, since they issue the license even without a social security number. You need to fill in the application on the NY board of nursing website, and then apply for the credential evaluation called CVS from www.cgfns.org.
Good luck.

Do you mind me asking what kind of visa you hope to go to the usa on if your not going as a nurse it is really tought to go to usa for longer than 3 month holiday visa the only way we can go is if I work as a nurse we could find no other category of visa to go out on.
Also are you general or psychiatric trained and when did you do your training because its not just as easy as sitting nclex you have to get permission to test based on your education record and most uk nurses need to make up nusing hours in certain areas. You need to apply to cgfns to have a credential evaluation to see if your education in satisfactory.

Hello Ruth
I am a South african trained nurse - started 1986 and have over 20years experience in most departments but am really looking for part time placements as i do acting as well ( wanna be closer to Hollywood ). So as i do here in the UK i.e work as a nurse to pay my bills and use acting as a relaxing change of enviroment after 20yrs.
I do have a visiting visa for now so will use that to come over and check things out and write the test in one go if i could manage that.
Have a good day as i am off for a run.
xx

Still going to be a struggle to find a working visa the easiest option is as a nurse as other visas can take years if you qualify for them, and I believe H1b are gone for next year but not sure if you would qualify if you are looking at acting
