new probation nurse in CA - hair testing?

Published

Hey everyone

New grad RN over here on probation for a DUI in the state of CA. I'm just trying to learn as much as I can so that I don't run into hiccups.

I know that nurses in CA are often selected for urine, sometimes blood (peth), but do nurses here get tested for hair as well? From my research so far, it seems like a lot of the other nurses in different states have been selected for hair but I have not seen a nurse in CA get selected for a hair test.

Thanks in advance!

@Bianca0206 I am entering the start of my probation date soon, and it seems you have been in the process that is causing me a bunch of stress, is there anyway I can email you for guidance? My probation begins 1/21 and I am digging through forms on where to begin.

Anyone knw the panel for hair follicle testing ? Do they test for alcohol?

Sorry for the late response! I hope it is all working out! I do not remember the panel but I do believe they test for alcohol. Good luck!

@Kmnurse21 sorry for the late response! Absolutely you can! It has been a crazy experience so far! I would be more than happy to answer any questions!

@Nursenurse45 I took an 18 panel hair test last October

I know my situation is different from each of you, but I'm sharing to possibly get an opinion or a suggestion of help. I have been made enter a monitering agreement. I have never diverted drugs. I have never taken drugs. I have never failed a drug test. I have never been accused of any type  of misconduct  against my nursing license in 26 yrs. I went to the post office and picked up a package for my next door neighbor and the package had marijuana in it. I was arrested of course and my whole life changed. I feel like I am not being treated fairly. I understand that drug addiction and diversion is a serious problem in our profession, but it's not me. Meanwhile, I'm paying out thousands of dollars in cash for a program that does not benefit me at all.

@Marie2021 I’m sorry you’re going through that!! That makes no sense that you would be put through this type of punishment. Did you get put on probation or diversion?

Hi Bianca can you email me when you get the chance. I’m not sure if I should do diversion or get a lawyer based on my specific scenario…love to get your opinion. thank you so much
