New to postpartum/newborn nursery HELP!

Specialties Ob/Gyn

Published

Hello all,

I have been a corrections nurse for the past year and just accepted a position as a postpartum/newborn nursery RN. I know that this is the right area for me but I have been out of school for a year and have no experience in this area at all besides clinicals. I want to be as prepared as I can and have about 2 weeks before I start the new job. Can anyone suggest reading materials, websites, anything to help me out?? They are going to set me up with NRP and S.T.A.B.L.E. once I start. I will also be floating to NICU, OB and training in lactation.

Thanks!

You are hopefully going to get a long orientation with nurses experienced in all those areas. If not, ask for it.

Specializes in labor & delivery.

NRP and STABLE are great certifications. I would go on ebay or amazon and find a used maternal/newborn textbook to refresh yourself. Know your normals for mom and newborns. AWHONN's Core Ciriculum is a great book. Good luck!

I just ordered the book you suggested! thanks for the reply :)

No suggestions here simply wanted to congratulate you on your new position! I am also hoping and praying for a mother/baby position I recently applied for. Wishing you all the best, and be sure to visit us here soon to let us know how it's going.
