i am currently a school nurse aide and i have recently re-enrolled to get my rn degree. i have gotten many different types of advice on how to go about getting my degree the fastest. some have said the best way is to get my lvn first because it is easier to get into a nursing program. others have said to look into online schools such as the university of phoenix. i am not sure of the credibility of some of these online schools and although i want a fast shortcut i still want a good dependable education. an rn position will be opening in about 2 years and i want to be as close as i can to being finished with my degree. this may be completely impossible but i want to give it my best. so does anyone out there have any advice or suggestions on a path i should take? basics will be done at the end of december.

Hi!
Well getting into an RN program is very competative ( well ANY nursing program I think0, If you go straight for your RN which a lot of people do recommend, you wont be spending extra money on an PN school. If you end up up like me and a lot of other RN hopefuls, you might be on a very long wait list, which could be up to 2-3 years. I was over being looked passed, So i decided to do the LPN to RN route. I have heard from numerous students, nurses and instructors that this was is a good route. Do what you feel is right or you.
As for online schooling...... There are NO NLN accredited colleges online that you can to do to get your nursing license. Now, if you are already and LPN/LVN or a RN, then you can do the numerous bridges programs. I am hoping to appy to Sonoma State University since they partnered up with Indiana State. UofP does not have a pre-licensure nursing program. Thier classes are pretty expensice as well. If you are looking to start on your pre-reqs, I love New Mexico Junior College,Rio Salado and an orginization called Straighterline. New Mexico Junior college takes all of straighterline classes as long as you are enrolled with them. I believe NMJC is only 260 for a 3credit class even for non-residents. I hope this helps a little. I wish you then best!!
