New Nursing Student - Need advice on what to study over summer to prepare

Published

I have just been accepted into the Fall nursing program and want to be as prepared as I can get! I will have an entire summer to take extra courses and/ or study, so my question is: As a 1st time nursing student, what should I focus on with my extra time?

Should I concentrate on Pharmacology flash cards, take a medical terminology course over the summer, or are there particular books I can purchase that focuses on 1st semester basics?

So many ways I can spend this valuable time and want it to count before the 1st big semester. Thanks in advance to all who answer

Enjoy your summer!

Get your textbooks early if you can. Just browse them, and read what interests you. Every program starts at a different point so your program content might be different than others.

I'd also recommend getting a head start on memorizing lab values, like the metabolic panel.

You won't know what they mean, but you'll need to memorize these eventually, so get started now if you have the time. If you get this stuff rolling around in your brain it'll help put the pieces together when they actually go over the content in class.

Mostly you should relax and get all of your stuff organized. Make a quiet space to study and get some supplies to keep all your stuff together.
