Hello,
I am new to this field, only started as a project manager 3 weeks ago.
I am trying not to reinvent the wheel?!:uhoh21:
My main project will be CPOE implementation through Meditech. If any one has any suggestions, tools for implementation, workflow assessment tools etc. it would be greatly appreciated.
And no scrapping Meditech is not an option. The hospital already has EMR and BMV through Meditech.
Thanks!

Hi Crazern,
Welcome to the fold. I'm sure your Psych background will come in handy as you tackel your new responsibilities as Project Manager.
Managing expectations, meeting deadlines, establishing time lines and managing scope creep are just a few of the new tasks you have to look forward to. This role is very similar to herding cats!
Are your people using Meditech for Order Entry now? Is it just the Unit Secretaries and Nurses who enter orders now?
Depending on how many docs you will need to train I'd suggest you designate a few trainers who will be solely dedicated to providing one-on-one training to docs in the physician lounges and in their offices. You know the docs think they are special and will demand a great deal of variety when it comes to training. You won't be able to train them all in the traditional group training sessions provided to the rest of the hospital staff.
Get in touch with the Physician champion(s) - thought leaders within the medical staff who can set the example and motivate those who may be resistant to using CPOE. Dont' forget about your Nurse Practioners - CPOE stands for "Provider" (not physician) Order Entry!
Don't forget to also provide training to staff who support the practioners/physicians. Remember when a provider has a problem entering an order on the floor he/she will turn to the RN or the unit secretary closest at hand - so you will not just train the docs but the RNs and USs too.
I'd also suggest you get in contact with the Meditech Users Group, check out the HIMSS NI website for workflow tools, join the CARING and Nursing L Listserves and hang on to your hat! It's going to be a hell-of-a ride!

Thanks! :thankya: I need all the suggestions and directions I can get. Yes, right now we have PCI and OE. The dos view only on PCI and nurses and Unit Clerks do orders in OE.

Good Luck! You are going to be building that system for years - what a cost to your hospital. We are using ECDS Empower Systems and it rocks. Easy to use, fast implementaion. You should check it out.
Thanks for your input. The hospital has invested in Meditech already though and that is the system we will be working with at this point. Although it has limitations we have found that in using rules and attributes we are able to build Meditech into the system that we want and have had good support from Meditech itself with NUR, MOX and PCI so far. :uhoh21:
