  1. Hello all, I am hoping to glean some assistance from the list regarding furthering my education. I have been a nurse for 25 years and have worked in several different positions. For the last 16 months I have worked in Nursing Admin as a project coordinator. I love this position. I have assisted in implementing the Vocera communications system in our hospital. I am assisting in a new call light system and also a GE Dinamap Vital signs monitor with Care Fusion to interface with our Meditech EMR. My main focus however is as a clinical lead for the implementation of CPOE in our Meditech Magic 5.5 sr3 platform. I had worked very little with Meditech prior to this position even though my entire career has been here at LMH. Now the reason for my e-mail. I greatly enjoy assisting in building CPOE and helping with the NUR module. I have built assessments for our out pt clinics and psych department and am constantly learning more every day. My future goal is to continue in this "nursing informatics" position and eventually relocate to the Carolina's. I am a Diploma Nurse who graduated from Mt Carmel School of Nursing, which 25 years ago was a 3 year school. I feel that I am at a crossroads and am trying to decide on my next step, do I get my BSN or a BS in another related field and if so where from. I like the idea of on-line learning as I am working full time and could do this in the evenings. Any help and advice any one can offer would be greatly appreciated.
  2. Pantheon, Thanks for the info. I will give them a call.
  3. Thanks for your return message. We are Meditech Magic 5.5 sr3 and will update to 5.6 in May. We will have UC's and nurses doing orders from written orders first in OM and then when we bring up POM the doctors will do thier own orders.
  4. Yes. I use the Meditech-L and MUSE links quite often but thought I would also try here.
  5. :monkeydance:Hello! I would like to talk with anyone who has implemented Meditech POM/PCM. We are a Magic 5.53 site and are just beginning to build this. It is very involved and I am trying to see if anyone has any tips, (besides dump Meditech, not an option, hospital has spent too much...) or screen shots, manuals, help books etc... Anything that you wish you had known when you were building the program. Any help is appreciated. :uhoh3:
  6. :welcome: I am a "cradle Catholic" so as a young girl I wanted to be a "nursing nun", then at about 11 or 12 I realized why God made little boys. The nun part of the dream bit the dust and the nursing dream stayed alive. I truly never thought of being anything else. In my career of 24 years and counting, I have worked med/surg, 20 years as a psych nurse which is still my first love, then on to office nurse for a GP, moved on to pain clinic and have finally settled again into nursing informatics which has quickly become my second love.:balloons:
  7. First of all, welcome to the fold. We need all the new nurses we can get. Our hospital has invested in Meditech already though and that is the system we will be working with at this point. Although it has limitations we have found that in using rules and attributes we are able to build Meditech into the system that we want and have had good support from Meditech itself with NUR, MOX and PCI modules so far. Meditech does have a good website and if you are able to get into the MUSE website you may be able to get screen shots. The modules we have in MEDITECH are all integrated and information does carry over but a lot of that depends on how the system administrator builds the program for each hospital. Good luck with your research.:smiletea2:
  8. Thanks for your input. The hospital has invested in Meditech already though and that is the system we will be working with at this point. 9. Thanks! :thankya: I need all the suggestions and directions I can get. Yes, right now we have PCI and OE. The dos view only on PCI and nurses and Unit Clerks do orders in OE.
  10. Hello, I am new to this field, only started as a project manager 3 weeks ago. I am trying not to reinvent the wheel?!:uhoh21: My main project will be CPOE implementation through Meditech. If any one has any suggestions, tools for implementation, workflow assessment tools etc. it would be greatly appreciated. And no scrapping Meditech is not an option. The hospital already has EMR and BMV through Meditech. Thanks!
