new nursing grads

U.S.A. Pennsylvania

Firstly, congrats to all you newly minted nurses! Now I would like to ask if any of you looking for jobs out there have noticed any problems with finding jobs? I have seen a lot of troubling news on various posts about new grads having a tough time find a job in this area. I wonder if the BSNs are having as tough a time (a least from what I've "seen" on these posting) as the ADNs at landing a position. Just curious...I would appreciate any comments!

I graduated from Clarion in May 08. I had a job almost 4 months before graduation. I would say that those having trouble finding positions may have waited too long to apply. I am also betting that there will be lots of openings in a few months as some decide nursing is not for them or move to a different facility. Just my :twocents:.

Specializes in Emergency, neonatal, pediatrics.

Just out of curiosity, what part of PA are you from?

I am originally from the Franklin/Oil City area, which is North Eastern PA. Just relocated to Creighton, which is a suburb of Pittsburgh.

Correction, I was going to say North East of Pittsburgh, but my hometown is located in the North Western corner of the state. Sorry, long day.

Well, some hospitals here in philly have hiring freezes. Yup, you heard me right. I think when you apply around may, most new grad opportunities are gone by then. I know some hospitals started hiring as early as january/february and i know some new grads who had jobs as early as december 07. Yeah, i should've applied back then. shoulda, coulda woulda....don't we all.
