NEW NURSE TROUBLE

Nurses General Nursing

Published

Well guys, here's the thing...I recently graduated in MARCH and I've finally gotten a nursing job. Although its ways from home, now I have 3 other opportunities close to home. I also started school sept 6 for RN pre reqs (Kinda thinking I shouldn't have because it was too soon?) Soooo I need some advice. How have you dealt with being in school and working?? I'm soooo confused lol thanks everyone

Your other three opportunities are moot -- you accepted a position. A manager took a chance on hiring you, a new grad, and you accepted the position. So concentrate on doing your best at the position you accepted. In a couple of years, you'll be a competent nurse and you can look for new opportunities. As far as school -- is there any way you can put it on hold for awhile? Being a new grad RN is a very stressful position, and you'll need to do some studying at home in order to learn your new job.

Did they know you were going to be in school when they offered you the LPN position? How are they working with you to accommodate your school hours?

Being in school and working isn't a choice for me, I have to do it to survive. I did it through my LPN program (worked retail) and am doing now in my LPN-RN transition program. Many employers have given me the run around, but in the end it's their loss. Some weeks I work up to 3 jobs trying to make it all work, when my FT employer doesn't schedule me correctly. So it can be stressful, and it will cut into your study time, but you do what you have to.

I totally agree! I started a public speaking class sept.6 (pre reqs for RN) and even that ONE class is taking up so much time. Thankfully my job is really helpful and considerate, allowing me to do my school assignments once my work is completed. Nothing comes easy right? haha. How Is your program going?
