New Nurse- Scared of not enough knowledge

Hi everyone!

This is my first post so let me introduce myself. I'm a new LPN- well, I've been one for a year but just started working about 6 months ago. I'm also going to school for my RN. Anyhow, I'm currently working with medically fragile young adults. Sometimes I just feel like I have no idea what I'm doing. I mean, I know what I'm doing but I'm scared of the unknown- I'm scared that something will happen on my shift and I won't have any idea what to do. I'm just not fully comfortable or confident I guess. Have any of you all gone through this? Any tips? I know in time and with more skills it will get nervous...but I just get so scared!

It takes time to feel comfortable. Every single one of us goes through it. I fear the nurses and the doctors who think they know everything. Keep learning and in time you will feel more confidence in you and your job.

I'm still in my first month of working as a RN and feel unsure myself. I have the phone numbers of some of the other nurses working at my facility on my cell. I have their permission to call them whenever there is an issue I don't know how to deal with. I'm the only nurse on duty on my shift at the LTC place I work at. It will take a while to feel comfortable.
