Hi I'm a brand new RN. I am starting my first job in a couple weeks. I have a stethoscope from nursing school, but I wanted to get one that was more specific for cardiac nursing. Any suggestions or good sites to purchase from? Thanks for the help.

Hi,
Get a Littman. They have lots of different cardiac stethoscopes. I have the CardioIII, and I love it. It really seems to magnify the sounds you need to hear. Expect to pay around $175.00 for it. Go to their website for more info.

I've heard great things about the Littmann cardiology scopes, but alot of RNs in the ED I work in have Ultrascopes and love them!!! They swear by them...I was curious so I borrowed one from one nurse and took a listen---amazing. I have a slight hearing problem and lots of scopes are difficult for me to hear anything, but that Ultrascope was as clear as a bell! Doesn't hurt also that they look cute and funky!

I have the Littman Cardio III and love it. Some of my co-workers have a Welch-Allyn (sp?) and swear by it. Best thing to do is to go to a store where and try them out.

Is the cardiac III, does it feel heavy on your neck or get stuck in your hair?

I'm one semester away from finishing school myself and I've had a Cardiology III from day one. I love it - and to address your question, I find it to be comfortable. I wear my hair up whenever I'm on the floor, but I've never had a problem.
It initially felt heavier than the one I used in nursing school, because it is heavier, but you will get used to it. I usually wear my hair up, but when it is down, I don't have any problems with it pulling my hair out.
Well I guess that makes my mind up... cardiology III. THanks loriann and carolinapooh.
