I work in a facility at night. I am the youngest staff member and some people really think because im a young white girl i can be walked all over. This is not the case. I have written up people for insubordination, Abuse, Restraints. ect... I might be a young nurse im italian i dont take bull**** to kindly. I do my job and i do it well but CNA are not listening to me, They talk back, yell at me for questioning their care, like how dare i check up on them. I ve been told i can be your mother dont question me, ive been told dont talk to me anymore ( after i told her not to yell at me again or take that tone with me, because i had to leave a patient for 15 seconds to put their property away) so i responded to her thats perfectly fine as long as you tell me about the residents and their care and she responded NO! all this is happen as im giving report to unit director and that the director jumps in and tell her thats enough one more word ill write you up myself. she stopped talking and walked away. I mean just because i am 22 and a charge nurse on the floor doesnt give them the right to speak to me that way in the facility or on the street. Ive told my supervisor about it and she responded shes just excited thats how we talk somtimes. I just do get it. I need advise
Well thank you for pointing out my grammar. I am dyslexic it tends to happen whether i proof read or not. im not write nurses not nor am being graded so i dont see the need to cross my tees and dot my eyes.I hardly ask them to do anything and if i ever do i always say please or if they report something to me i say thank you. I never demand anyone to do anything. I have never threatened to write anyone up. And if you really think i would do anything to harm or insult my residents, you my dear are sadly mistaken. I live for my residents. I am their advocate. I do everything I can for their best interests.
The issues i had shared are coming from a year of working in this place, these issues dont happen every night.
So do i need to check up on them? Yes i do. If you saw an aid, not once not twice but multiple times, cleaning patients with out water, or using mouth wash instead of perigaurd, double diapering what would you do? because at the end of the day their your patients these thing are happen under your care. If you caught your staff doing those thing you wouldnt check up on them ever? And yes i can have respect because all i give them is respect, and i expect that in return.
You may not think so, but writing with proper grammar and spelling is very important when you are communicating with your supervisors. You want to appear professional. Even on this site, many people will disregard a post that is poor spelled, badly paragraphed and contains numerous grammatical errors.
After reading your posts, I have to wonder if you come across too harsh to your fellow staff.
I dont ever disrespect anyone. i dont understand why everyone thinks so, i was venting. I talk to my cna as my peers co workers. i help them with there asignments, i make sure here doing ok i let them take hour and half breaks(we work nights), they have this idea they can speak to me as they would their children. and race is an issue i have been called casper, wahp, and cracker, and dont like each other jamaicans vs haitians
The name-calling should not be tolerated----especially by administration!! That's too bad that THEY allow it

I never said that YOU would harm or insult your patients/clients/residents. I think you let your "Italian blood" get racing and don't process fully things that are being suggested to you. You asked for advice, nurses here have given it. And yes, that included double checking your used of grammar and punctuation. I, for one, have a hard time taking you seriously as a professional if you don't portray yourself as one. You made it through nursing school and the NCLEX with dyslexia, surely that was exceediingly more difficult than composing a post here.
Perhaps a change of employment would best serve most parties involved?
