New nurse advice

Published

I am graduating in May 2014. What advice would you give a new nurse?

Advice to any graduate: study for and take the NCLEX as soon as possible after graduation. The longer you wait, the greater your chances for failure.

You want that shiny new license ASAP to look attractive for employers!

I would say,"Go to the First Year of Nursing Licensure" forum under the Careers heading on AllNurses and ask there!

Start preparing for the NCLEX right away! You're still in that study grind from nursing school and everything is fresh in your head.

That's great advice! I'm hoping to get it done asap. How did you study for the NCLEX? They have an ATI testing program that's supposed to help did you use it or have you herd of it?

I think all courses just depend on how the person learns. I've never taken ATI but know people who have and had no trouble passing.

Here is the thread I typed up after passing the NCLEX about the resources I used. I graduated 3 years before taking my NCLEX and self-learned over the course of 3 months. I felt like review classes wouldn't help me as much as me diligently studying the material I had would.

We had ATI testing in my program, but I used a combination of Saunders, NCSBN, my textbooks and notes. Also, as a new grad I would advise you to apply everywhere. Doesn't make sense to come on here and cry about not getting a job when you've limited your search to a specific area at specific hospitals.

May is going to come up real quick so I wish you all the best.
