New NP job market ????

Published

I'll be graduating this Dec as an FNP and am worried about the job market out there. I was thinking the new health care bill would boost up the demand, but I really don't see it happening yet... Any recent new grads or old grads out there have any input???

I'm afraid the job market isn't any better in FL. I just started my FNP program and my academic advisor warned us of "no jobs"... I don't have the option of looking nationwide because of family and my husbands job. I really hope I'm not wasting my money and family time doing this. I can only hope that by 2013 (when I graduate) that the job market is much better!

Really it scares me that there will be few jobs for NP's when I graduate in 2 years. Everyone I know is going for their NP. Most are doing it online. I chose a brick and mortar so that I could be assured of them providing me with good clinical sites. I DID NOT desire to find my own preceptors. I am seeing the lowering of nurse salaries in my area. I will be 3 years without a raise this summer. One of my advisors told me many accept NP positions in this area for 45k per year. I cannot do that. She told me that many who accept these lower paid positions are tied to the area due to parents, children and spousal jobs. I cannot justify the responsibility and educational expenses for that type of pay so I will need to relo out of state. Besides, my state was one of the last to get prescription priviledges and I see how the MD's negate the NP position here. But I am close to medical college of Georgia so I would expect that to be the case. Many are residents with no life experience and no knowledge of the position of NP.
