New NCLEX 2013 - California

Nursing Students NCLEX

Published

Finally, after what seems like the longest journey ever I was able to schedule my NCLEX. I take it at the end of this month in California. I can generally keep my nerves under control, but the fact that I just went on an interview and was offered a job pending my passing the NCLEX and getting my license adds a little to the pressure.

I have 5 days until I take my exam and I was hoping that maybe some of you can give some input. I have been a stalker of this site and these boards but have never posted.

My strategy so far has been to just take as many questions as possible from everywhere. I have been using Saunders 5th edition, NCLEX 4000, I have a single disc with a 180 Kaplan assessment test on it. I have the board game RNtertainment that has questions on cards that I have been doing. I haven't really had any structure to my testing other than just do questions, and go back and read rationales of questions I missed. At my school we used ATI and before we graduated in June we took 2 different ATI predictors. I scored an 82% on one of those, and an 81% on the other. Studying for those predictors I probably took about 5000 questions.

I didn't study while waiting for my ATT and my school took forever getting the proper info to the BRN, but I am a crammer and do well under pressure. I never did that well when I studied way in advance, or over study I tend to second guess myself then. Does anyone else out there have a similar studying style? Any recommendations?

Also being in CA we do not have quick results here so I guess we have to rely on the PVT, but does anyone know how long it takes for your name and license # to show up on the BRN verify site? I've heard everything from 24 hours to 30 days.

Any input is greatly appreciated!! Happy Studying to all!

Well only I can say its Good Luck!!! Believe in ur self and don't over well ur self on questions

thanks, I am so nervous!

It seems to me like the CA BRN is very backed up right now, since so many students have just graduated and are currently testing. It took 2.5 weeks for my license to show up on the BRN site, but then some of my classmates got it after 3 days, and some of my classmates who took it before me still haven't heard!

NCLEX-RN® Exam April 2013 Test Plan Changes explained by Kaplan Nursing - YouTube

Its a link for a video that talks about how much % needs to be of what area, and what topics are to be covered in that area. It's been helpful as I structure out my study plan. Get a plan going, questions will help but there are certain things you are gonna wanna brush up on like infection control, labs, meds, delegation, etc.

I have also heard it depends when u test as t when you're license info is posted. My school runs on the off cycle and everyone had their CA results posted at 48 hours. I believe volume makes a large difference

Please keep us updated on your journey! I'm waiting patiently for my ATT and IP to come and am trying to get as organized as possible. Good luck!!

Good luck to you! You will do fine. I'm from Cali, my name and license number appeared on the BRN website 2 days after my exam. Actual license in mail 10 days later, RN certificate in mail 18 days later. :) Congrats also for landing a job in CA...awesome! :)

Less than 24 hours to go. My anxiety is coming and going in waves. I've been doing question after question after question in a variety of different books. I took the Kaplan 265 quesiton practice test at the end of the strategies guide and got a 73% which from what I have been reading is pretty good. I am kind of slowing down now, and just reviewing the notes that I have made for myself as I have been answering questions. I will post tomorrow how things went, and what kind of result I got using the PVT. I am not sure I truly trust it. I have been telling myself that I will not do it, but I know I will. I am hoping I prepared enough!

Good luck and get a good nights sleep. Wake up on time and pray. You can do it!

Only a few hours til test time. This forum has been a great help, everyone is so supportive. I can't wait to take the test and then post how I feel afterwards : )

OK, well I took the exam today I got 75 questions, over 20 SOTA .. I did the PVT and got the good pop up, so hopefully it is accurate. I will post when I know for sure!

Keep us posted with the results!

Well I checked the CA BRN website this morning and they issued a license to me!! SO I offically passed the NCLEX on the first try! I am so happy, so yes the Pearson Vue trick was accurate for me, and california posted my license to their website 2 days after I took the exam, but they also had all of my transcripts! YAY!
