I have been entrusted with this forum by Brian and am so very honored. I will do my best to live up to the high standards set forth by him and the other excellent moderators here at Allnurses.com.

Please drop by and let us know what is on your mind for Nurse Practitioners!! PM me at any time.

Hi Siri..

Cleveland is certainly one of my top choice. I am also looking at John Hopkins at Baltimore, Mayo at MN and Texas (can't remember the institution). If you don't mind, I would like to know more about CRNP and CNS and so forth. They do sound foreign to us. The nursing track in singapore are generally divided into administrative, clinical and education. I am a nurse clinician in cardiac settings. my background is intensive care and geriatric nursing - lethal combination! however, my future career track is pretty uncertain due to the fact that acceptance from the different public, medical faculty and even nursing on the ground is still luke warm.

Hello, meow,

Is the institution in Texas, MD Anderson Institute? That is a wonderful place....just wonderful!!

CRNP=certified registered nurse practitioner

I am an NP certified in family practice and also, in OB-GYN (Woman's Health). I started out in OB and realized in my area (where I reside), that this discipline was too narrow and the FNP discipline was the most marketable one. I worked as an OB NP for many years and then became FNP. I utilize both disciplines in my practice. I am also, a medical legal consultant.

CNS=clinical nurse specialist

There is not much difference between NP and CNS. They both have prescription privileges. Both can deliver healthcare. The CNS that I have seen assume more of role as faculty educator and go on to get their PhD in clinical research. However, the two careers overlap.

Your background in cardiac settings, ICU, geriatrics is most impressive. You should fare very well as an NP. You just need to decide WHAT type of NP discipline you would like to pursue.

I wish you all the luck in the world. Please, continue to update us/me and I will most certainly be here to assist you in any way I can. :balloons:

Congratulations Siri! I will be in your forum a lot, FYI. ;)

I'm in school for post-Master's NP. Hopefully to be done in a year and a half... that's why you'll hear from me often. :rotfl:

I hope you don't mind. :)

Wonderful, castrorn!!! It is great to have you. Yes, please come in often and let us know where you plan on practicing, what type of practice.....private/combined/hospital/clinic.

We look forward to following along with you!! :balloons:

CONGRATULATIONS ,Siri

Congrats. Siri!

I'd think twice about Texas-They're a little behind the times-NP's must practice under the supervision of an MD. Here in Ct., we have a collaborative relatioship with MD's. Yale and Hartford are excellent teaching hospitals for an NP!

Hi Siri:

How was Hawaii? Did you learn to surf?
