I am a mother of 3 work as hospice aid for the past 10 years.I am anxious to be a nurse so I can make my patients feel more comfortable.I hope you guys let me in as your guess.

I completed an LVN program in October 2005. My class took an exit exam, but it was not called the 'HESI'. Rather, it was called the ERI. Out of 22 people in the class, 6 students did not pass. The consequence of not passing was that the director of nursing refused to send the student's paperwork into the state's board of nursing until they passed this exit exam.

If this is the case with your school, please be aware that you can send your own paperwork into your state's board of nursing and therefore be on the road to taking NCLEX to obtain licensure as a nurse.

If the HESI is anything like NCLEX, my suggestion is that you obtain an NCLEX review book that contains an accompanying CD-ROM. On a daily basis you should answer 100 questions daily with the CD-ROM and read the rationales for each answer carefully. A few of my suggestions for review books are Saunders, Lippincott, Mosby, or Cliffs Test Prep. But you will only need 1 or 2 of these books at the most. These can be purchased online or at any major bookstore.

Are you weak in any particular areas? If so, review them! Go back to your old nursing school textbook and re-read each chapter that might have given you trouble during school. Always remember that airway, breathing, and circulation are the top priorities when dealing with your patients. Always remember that basic needs, such as oxygen, water, nutrition, rest, and elimination, are the top priorities when planning care for your patients.
