New LPN in Ohio

Published

Please tell me if I am loosing my mind ! I started taking prerequisite at the local community college to start the ADN program, I took me 2 years to complete them and I was very elated when I was done. U finally could get on the waiting list but it was a 5 year wait " OMG " was my first thought. But the LPN_RN bridge waiting list was much shorter. So I decided to enroll in an 18 month LPN program and once I got my license to enroll for the colleges Bridge. Now I'm on the waiting list and was sent a letter stating that I meant all requirements and an do to start the program for fall of 2014 ! Was I happy , but decided to work as an LPN until then. I just can't find a job and it is very discouraging, I'm not a quitter by far but I don't think I'll ever work as an LPN. I have filled out over. 20 applications and have a great work history. I'm not sure if no one is calling because I have never been an aide or what ! I'm just frustrated and don't know what to do. Has anyone else had this issue ?

Specializes in Vents, Telemetry, Home Care, Home infusion.

Hello! Congrats on becoming an LPN! I too am a brand new LPN (graduate in Dec12)

I am from Muncie, IN...and around here the only place that hires LPN's are nursing homes. I am currently working the night shift at a nursing home on a skilled nursing unit. There are some IV's, wounds & catheters on my hall..which is nice since I cannot get the full experience that I would at a hospital. I also feel that I have (almost) mastered med passes and feel comfortable with Narcs! I really enjoy my job, but am planning to further my education and get my RN through Ivy Tech (hopefully starting in Jan) and then I can work in a hospital!

Have you tried any nursing homes, or even home health care? We also have blood banks..where they donate plasma, etc. that hire LPNs around here.

Good luck and don't give up! It is nice to get nursing experience while going back, that way when we are RN's we have some experience over brand new nurses!

Don't give up, just keep applying. Its hard for new grad right now. HH is good area to try, they seem willing to train new nurses. Good luck

Ty Ajreel ! I have only put in applications in long term facilities, because I know that is where I'm most likely to get hired. But no one called back and I don't want to continuously call and seem like a pest . I have even applies almost 1 hour away from my home to give myself a better advantage .

Thank You Joannalpn ! I am , I have waited a longtime to get to this point in my life and by far do not want to give up at all . I'm just a little disappointed. And BTW: where is HH ? If you don't mind me asking.
