New LPN in Home Health?

Published

Specializes in LTC, Pediatrics.

Hello all! I just graduated from an LPN program in July. I am currently awaiting to take my boards in a couple of weeks. I have been working in a pediatric clinic for the past four months as a CNA and I am currently working with my license pending. This is what I thought I wanted to do until I recieve my RN, but I am not so sure anymore. So, to get to the point, I have been talking to a friend of mine whose mom works with a home health care agency and loves it. They are hiring LPNs currently, and she was wondering if I would be interested once I get my license. It all sounds very appealing....much higher pay and alot of variety. I like the idea of not getting stuck in one specialty so early on in the game. Im only 20, and I dont have much nursing experience to date....that is what kind of scares me. My fear is that if I happen to pursue a job in home health that I wont know what Im doing, or that I wont get a proper orientation to the point that I will feel comfortable floating from case to case. Any advice would be greatly appreciated! :D

Hi! Welcome to the Forum. If Home Health is what you want, go for it! I figure, if you think you need more orientation when you get the job: ask for it.

I don't know about LPNs in home care in your area, but around here, Wash. D.C., you need 1 year experience in a hospital/nursing home setting before an agency will accept you. You may want to check first. Good luck!

I live in CT and went for a Home Health job and they told me that after I've had my license for a year to go back and they would hire me.

a new nurse really will feel more comfortable in a situation where you can ask for help if you need it...

if you think that you will feel comfortable in that job give it a try..
