Hello, fellow LPN's!
I'm a newly licensed grad, and as such have had a hard time finding a job/getting interviews. Last week I was one of four "hired" by Interim Health Care for a preceptor class they do occasionally for new grads or those new to home care. It's not my ideal choice (d/t my lack of experience!), but they put you through this preceptor with classes and a certain amount of mentoring with a nurse. Does anyone have any experience w/ Interim as a company? How about home care as a new LPN?

I have been employed with the Interim Branch in my area for almost 6 years. I was not a new grad when I went to work for them, but I like the agency very much. My DON is very supportive and always goes the extra mile for us. The office staff is great too. Peds cases are paid at a higher rate than adult cases, and Peds nurses get a quarterly bonus, based on hours worked, it has to do with the higher rates for Peds cases. As far as learning new skills, you'd be surprized that you really do learn very quickly. Keep plugging, you'll do great.

Based on my experience with Interim, I would not recommend the employer.
Thanks realnursealso/LPN! I'm being hired on in Peds, so those are good things to hear. They are putting a group of us through a mentoring program, which was really appealing to me. I've had good experiences with the office staff so far. It's been hard trying to get my foot in the door somewhere. I was just happy that someone was willing to help and give me the oppotunity!

You did not mentioned your state. When I was a new grad in Calif, I applied to Interim. They did not take new grads. Possibly they changed their hiring practices or they have differing practices across the nation.

Do you mind me asking what your experience was like with them? I'm in Ohio, what state are you in?
I am out in So. Calif. Now that I think about it, they would not accept new grads and at the time I was a new LVN and attending RN school. A few years have passed and the company closed up the Interim in my area--they no longer do home health and only do private duty. Every other month or so, I get their newsletter. That's the sum total of my experience with them.
